Amanda Carmer received a BA in art education from Purdue University, West Lafayette in 2006. After teaching elementary art for two years in rural Indiana she relocated to Chicago to attend Columbia College and received a BFA in photography in May 2011. She is now enrolled in the MFA program at Kendall College of Art and Design, Grand Rapids. While at Columbia Amanda received numerous recognitions including the Albert P. Weisman Award and an honorable mention in PDN EDU Magazine's annual Student Photo Contest and exhibited her work extensively. She also pursued an interest in curatorial research and exhibition production as an intern with the photography department at The Art Institute of Chicago. Currently she is a curatorial assistant with Open Concept Gallery. Her work straddles the line between journalistic and conceptual and addresses economic, social, and cultural issues as well as the affects of technology on daily experience.
